Bump stops

Together with the CV boots, this part ensures that the shock absorber is protected against dirt, premature wear and damage. The bump stop ensures that the shock absorber does not spring too deeply when, for example, you drive too fast over a high threshold. The CV boots ensures that dirt from the outside does not end up in the shock absorbers. Both the bump stop and the CV boots are made of rubber so that the flexibility of the suspension is preserved. Bump stop worn

The bump stop can become worn. This happens when, for example, you often drive on an uneven road surface or when you go too fast over high speed bumps. A worn bump stop can be recognized by cracks, deformation or loss of elasticity. In addition, a worn rubber can cause oil leakage from the strut. Check the rubbers regularly for defects so that further wear on the car parts can be prevented. We also recommend that you replace the CV bootss and the bump stop when replacing the shock absorbers. In most cases, the complete suspension strut will have to be disassembled when you want to replace the bump stop. By replacing all parts of the suspension system at the same time, you save yourself a lot of effort. In addition, these parts often wear proportionally. In many cases, the CV boots and bump stop are worn even earlier, because they provide the first protection to the suspension system.

Replacing bump stop

Bump stops cannot be repaired and must therefore always be replaced in case of wear or damage. To replace the bump stop, the system of the shock absorber or strut must first be disassembled. Then remove the old CV boots and bump stop. Then clean the shock absorbers well and install the components to be replaced. You can now reassemble the whole thing. It is recommended to replace both sides per axle. The parts usually wear proportionally per axle.
