Engine parts
Simply put, the engine ensures that the car can drive. In order to function (properly) the engine needs a number of
things. Think, for example, of fuel, air,
coolant , engine oil , control and
ignition. Failure to provide the engine with proper lubrication, cooling or
control can cause engine damage. So make sure you maintain the engine well, top
up the fluids on time and use the right fuel in the car. In addition, it is
important not to drive too high or too low in the revs and to run the engine
regularly. If the engine is standing still for too long, this can also cause
damage.
Engine damage can be expensive. The
engine is a very complex part of the car. Do you have the maintenance carried
out by the garage? Then make sure you supply the parts yourself. This often
saves you a lot of costs!
How does the car engine work?
Most people know how to identify the
engine of the car under the hood. But how does such an engine actually work?
An engine block is made up of
cylinders, which are covered by a
cylinder head . These cylinders are also
called the combustion chambers. The cylinders have
inlet valves to supply air
and
outlet valves to expel exhaust gases. In addition, there are pipes running
towards the cylinder which supply fuel. This fuel is compressed by a piston
with the supplied air, making the mixture very flammable. The
spark plugs then
ensure that a spark is released, which causes an explosion in the cylinder and
pushes it downwards. This ensures that one of the most important parts is set
in motion; the
crankshaft . The crankshaft ensures that the up-and-down movement
is converted into a rotating movement. This spinning motion is then transferred
to the gears of the transmission, which allow the wheels to turn smoothly. This
process only takes about a second and is constantly repeated to power the
vehicle.
There are, of course, all kinds of
components that make this process possible. For example, there is an
inlet manifold on the cylinder head, which supplies air and a camshaft which ensures
that air can flow in and out of the cylinder. This camshaft is again driven by
the
timing belt or timing chain . Furthermore, engine oil is constantly pumped
around by the
oil pump , which ensures that the parts of the engine are well
lubricated and cooled. This prevents wear on the parts. At the bottom of the
engine, the oil is collected by the
crankcase , which also houses the oil pump,
which pumps the oil through the engine. In addition, the engine is equipped
with an
engine stand . The engine stand ensures that the vibrations and jolts of
the engine are absorbed and cannot be felt while you are in the car.
It is very important to maintain the
engine well and to change, check and top up the engine oil regularly. Is the
dipstick broken or have you lost the oil filler cap ? Don't worry, you can also
easily order these online at Winparts.
