AdBlue & demiwater

AdBlue is a water fluid that is biodegradable. The fluid consists of 32.5 percent urea and is injected into the exhaust system in a controlled manner. This releases ammonia and creates a chemical reaction that converts nitrogen oxides into nitrogen and water. In this way, the product cleans the exhaust fumes of diesel engines, which are known to release many nitrogen oxides.

Does my vehicle use AdBlue?

AdBlue is mainly used in vehicles with diesel engines that have been equipped with an SCR system since 2014. Are you unsure whether this also applies to your diesel engine? In some vehicles this is easy to read on the AdBlue filler cap that can be found next to the diesel tank cap. However, in some cars this is more discreetly concealed. When to top up AdBlue?

When you need to top up AdBlue depends on the driving style and routes you travel with your vehicle. Normally, it is sufficient to top up AdBlue during a service. But it can happen that the AdBlue is running out sooner. If this is the case, you will be notified on the dashboard. At the first report you can still drive about 2400 km. However, it is important that the AdBlue is topped up on time. When the liquid tank is completely empty, the car will no longer start. When the reservoir is almost empty, make sure that you add at least 4 liters of AdBlue, otherwise the light in the dashboard will remain on and there is a risk that the vehicle will no longer start.

How to top up AdBlue?

The blue filler cap for AdBlue is often located behind the fuel filler flap. In some cars it is slightly more hidden under the hood or the boot floor, for example. If you cannot find the filler cap, please check the vehicle owner's manual. You can easily top up the AdBlue yourself, you can use a funnel to prevent spillage. Please note that in some cases the on-board computer must be reset afterwards.

What is Demiwater?

A non-maintenance-free car battery must occasionally be filled with demineralised water, also called battery water. Normal tap water contains all kinds of minerals, lime and salt, which are very harmful to the car battery. Over time it could even make the car battery unusable. You can top up the car battery with demineralised water by opening the screw cap on the car battery and carefully pouring in demineralised water up to the maximum mark. If the battery does not have a maximum mark, fill it until the plates are submerged.
