Accelerator cables

The accelerator cable of the car allows you to accelerate via the accelerator pedal. This cable is connected to the accelerator pedal and to the throttle body of the engine. Most modern cars today have an electrically controlled gas supply. Yet there are still many vehicles that accelerate using the mechanical accelerator cable.

Accelerator cable car broken

The accelerator cable can break for several reasons. For example, the cable can rust and break because of moisture or the cable can tear due to age or because it has been clamped. If the accelerator cable breaks, it can cause dangerous situations. When the cable breaks or tears, no more gas can be given. To avoid complete breakage of the accelerator cable, it is important to be aware of the following symptoms:

- The throttle response time is very delayed.

- High revs at standstill.

- Less power.

- It takes more effort to accelerate.

- Cruise control does not work properly.

Have you noticed one or more of these symptoms? Then it is important to replace the cable as soon as possible, so that it does not break on the way.

Replacing accelerator cable car

The accelerator cable of the car can only be replaced and is therefore not repairable. Replacing the accelerator cable is generally not a difficult job, when you have the right technical knowledge. When replacing the cable, observe the following steps:

1. Open the hood

2. Locate the throttle which is connected to the cable. On most engines this will be near the carburetor.

3. Disconnect the old cable by unscrewing the screw fixing. Make sure you also loosen the attachment with the accelerator pedal, this is done under the dashboard.

4. Install the new cable the same way it came off. Start under the dashboard, at the accelerator pedal.
