Replacing gas struts

Installing gas struts

Installing gas struts is a straightforward task that generally takes only a few minutes. Handle the gas strut bar with care to prevent damage, as a damaged strut will lose gas and fail to function correctly. Install the gas strut with the piston rod facing down, release the retaining spring, and then press it back into position after assembly. Remove the safety clip, and install the new gas spring in reverse order. If your new gas strut has a metal plate, begin assembly from that side.
