ABS sensor broken

ABS is an electronic system, which makes it vulnerable to malfunctions. In the event of a failure in the ABS sensor or in other ABS components, the light will appear in the dashboard. When the light comes on, it is important to see where it is coming from. The ABS sensors are located near the wheels along with the ABS sensor ring. These parts cannot withstand heat, moisture and dirt. If the sensor is exposed to this a lot, it is likely to cause a malfunction. In this case, check whether the sensor or sensor ring needs to be cleaned or replaced. The ABS sensor is located behind the brake disc.

Replace ABS sensor

With a little technical understanding, you can replace the ABS sensor yourself. This saves you a lot of costs at the garage. Repairing the sensors can quickly become expensive at a garage. The following steps will help you install a new ABS sensor yourself.

1. Remove the wheel from the car. Make sure to jack the car up firmly beforehand so that the wheel can be removed safely. You should now see the sensor behind the brake disc.

2. Loosen the screws of the ABS sensor.

3. Remove the sensor. Keep in mind that this can sometimes be difficult because there is still dirt in the holes of the screws. You will then have to remove and clean this first.

4. Lubricate the screw holes with copper grease.

5. Install the new sensor. After that, all parts can be neatly put back.

6. Finally, the ABS fault must be removed from the car's computer system. This can be done with a diagnostic device, which clears the error code from the car's computer system.

ABS sensor

Nowadays every car has an ABS system, or the anti-lock braking system. When braking vigorously, such as during an emergency braking, the wheels of a car can lock. Blocked wheels can make the car uncontrollable. The ABS system has been devised to prevent this. There are ABS sensors on each wheel that monitor whether the wheel is still spinning. If a wheel starts to lock with a lot of braking force, the ABS ensures that the braking force is briefly removed from the wheel. In this way the braking force is maintained and the car remains steerable. Affordably replace your broken ABS sensors yourself. Enter your license plate or select the car model and the correct car parts will be displayed.
