Broken or dirty air filter car

The air filter can become clogged over time. But also other defects can occur. Defects that can occur are mechanical damages to the housing or damage to the filter material. Air filter cleaning

If the air filter is contaminated, you can choose to clean it. For this you have to disassemble the filter, which is very easy. The filter is fitted in a plastic container which can be found under the hood. You can often easily remove the lid of this container by removing the clamps. Then clean the lid with a dry cloth. But, pay attention! Ensure that no dirt falls into the inlet. You can then remove the filter element and vacuum is from the outside with the vacuum cleaner. You can also clean the air filter with an air spray. Make sure that you clean the filter in the opposite direction from which the air normally enters. Is the filter too clogged or damaged? Then it is better to replace the air filter. There are also washable air filters, these are often K&N air filters.

Air filter replacement

An air filter replacement is relatively easy. The replacement is also seen as one of the simplest repair works on a car. In most cases, the filter is already dismantled after 5 to 10 minutes. In the instruction booklet of your car you can read where the filter is located exactly. Then remove the filter cover and remove the clogged or contaminated filter. Then clean the inside of the housing with a damp cloth. Now you can install the new filter.
