Fuel filter

A fuel filter ensures that the fuel is filtered before it gets to the engine. A fuel filter is a filter in the fuel line, so somewhere along with the fuel hose. Fuel filters are both used at petrol and diesel-powered cars and are also called diesel filters for a diesel car. For petrol cars, this is often called a petrol filter.

The fuel that you fill up with at the petrol pump is already filtered, but dirt or rust can still get mixed up with the fuel. The fuel needs to be as pure as possible before it reaches the engine. Without a properly functioning fuel filter, dirt can reach the engine. Dirt and rust particles can cause a lot of damage to, among other things, the fuel pump and fuel injectors. Changing a fuel filter

In general, it is recommended to change a fuel filter every 30,000 miles. If you do not make as many miles, the rule of thumb is to change the fuel filter every 2 years. The diesel filter or petrol filter is also often replaced as part of the major service. You can easily change a fuel filter yourself, it is a small and simple job.
