Clutch switch

The clutch switch prevents the car from starting while it is in gear. If the car were to be started while in gear, without the clutches, there is a good chance that control of the vehicle will be lost. The car could suddenly start moving forwards or backwards when starting. For this reason the clutch switch was created. The clutch switch is activated as soon as the clutch pedal is pressed. As soon as the clutch pedal is pressed, the car can be started.

Do you have cruise control? On vehicles with cruise control, the clutch switch has an additional function. When the cruise control is engaged, the vehicle will accelerate itself. The clutch switch on these vehicles causes the cruise control to disengage or release the throttle as soon as the clutch is pressed. A new switch will therefore have to be connected to the clutch and to the cruise control on these vehicles.

Clutch switch broken

Do you suspect that the clutch switch of the car is broken? This can be recognized by a number of symptoms. The first and most common symptom is not starting the car. Have you pushed the keys in the ignition and the clutch but the car stays in parked position? Then there is a good chance that your clutch switch needs to be replaced. However, another symptom may be that the car will start but you will not depress the clutch. This can cause dangerous situations. The car can now start driving while you start it. To prevent these dangerous situations, it is therefore important to take action as soon as possible when you notice the symptoms.

Replace clutch switch

The clutch switch is an easily replaceable part. The switch is located above the clutch in the dashboard panel. Usually it is hidden behind a cover above the pedals. To release the clutch switch, simply turn it 90 degrees. You can retighten the new switch in the same place. We would advise to replace the brake light switch at the same time. This is in the same location, but above the brake pedal.
