Expansion valve defective

A defective expansion valve can have major consequences for the operation of the air conditioning and can even cause damage. It is therefore important to recognize a defect early on. To recognize such a defect, you can pay attention to a number of symptoms. The first symptom is a malfunctioning air conditioning system. A defect in the expansion valve can cause the air conditioner to malfunction and start blowing warm air. Another symptom of an expansion valve malfunction is ice build-up in the vents. If the expansion valve is not working properly, too much refrigerant may be pumped to the AC system. Excess refrigerant can cause frostbite in the fan openings. A final symptom is the constant running of the air conditioning compressor. If the expansion valve sticks or fails, this can cause the compressor to continuously pump refrigerant through the AC system

Expansion valve replacement

Replacing the expansion valve is a relatively easy job that you can do yourself. However, part of the dashboard will have to be removed, which will often take some time. When replacing the valve, you can observe the following steps:

1. Remove the glove box for easy access to the valve.

2. Next, the evaporator will also have to be disassembled. The valve is in most cases placed at the top behind the evaporator.

3. Now that you can easily access the valve, it can be removed.

4. Lubricate the new valve with oil and install it in the same way as the old valve was installed.

5. Install the evaporator and also replace the glove box.

Expansion valve

The expansion valve is part of the air conditioning (AC) of the car. This valve controls the flow and pressure of the refrigerant that is pumped towards the AC. Problems with the valve can cause not enough refrigerant to be pumped towards the air conditioner. If the air conditioning system does not get enough refrigerant, the car's interior cannot be cooled properly. Also, the air compressor may not be properly lubricated or may become overloaded, causing serious damage. At Winparts, you can easily find the right expansion valve for your car with your car model. Simply enter it on the website and the correct components will be displayed.
