Anti-roll bar link symptoms

An anti-roll bar generally doesn’t break that easy. How quickly it will wear depends on the driving behaviour of the owner. The sway bar will break more easily when driving on roads with many pits and bumps than it will on a nice paved, flat motor way. Holes, bumps and pits in the road will also cause the connection rod to wear faster. Do you hear a thumping sound on a bumpy road? Or does the car lean more than usual to a specific side? Then there is a good chance that the anti-roll bar is broken and needs to be replaced.

The anti-roll bar bushes, however, are subject to wear. The chances of having to replace the bushes are greater than having to replace the entire sway bar. The sway bar bushes will eventually wear and dry out and thus need to be replaced.

Anti-roll bar

The anti-roll bar or sway bar is a metal bar running from left to right between the car tyres. The sway bar can be found on both the front and rear axles of the car. The bar provides a connection between the left and right wheel suspension. The function of the anti-roll bar link is to prevent the car from leaning to one side. The torsion bar is attached to the body with brackets, bushes and a ball joint which can be found at the ends. Each of the ball joints can rotate in a different directions. The anti-roll bar has a lot to endure and can, therefore, break over time. However, it is more common that the bushes and brackets need to be replaced.
