regenerate particle filter

The small soot particles that are filtered from the exhaust gases are stored in small chambers in the filter. You may imagine that the rooms will become full of soot particles over time. A pressure sensor sensor measures how full the filter chambers are. If the chambers are too full, the car's electrical system ensures that the temperature of the combustion gases is temporarily raised sharply. The temperature is then raised to about 600 degrees. This process is also known as regeneration. By regenerating the soot filter, the soot particles are burned and converted into ash. Because ash is very small, it can find its way out through the exhaust and there is again room in the particle filter.

Diesel particle filter clogged

Sometimes the particle filter cannot regenerate properly because, for example, only short distances are driven by car. When driving only short distances, the car cannot get warm enough to carry out the regeneration process. This can clog the filter. You can recognize a clogged filter by the malfunction light in the dashboard or a reduced power of the engine. Sometimes the particle filter can still be regenerated, but in most cases it will have to be cleaned or replaced.

Replace particle filter

In some cases, the filter may malfunction because it has been clogged for too long. In this case, the filter will have to be replaced. Replacing a particle filter is a very time-consuming job that requires knowledge and technical insight. Would you rather leave the job to a garage owner? Then make sure that you buy the parts from Winparts and supply them yourself. This often saves you a lot of costs.

Particle filter

A particle filter is part of the exhaust system of cars with diesel engines. Diesel engines emit small soot particles during combustion in the engine. In order to meet the emission standards, cars with a diesel engine must therefore be equipped with a particle filter. The name says it all, the particle filter filters these small soot particles from the exhaust gases so that they do not end up in the environment. The filter stores these soot particles in chambers, so that the filter will become full over time. It is therefore important that the filter is regularly regenerated or cleaned. However, it is possible that the filter has already become so clogged that it is better to replace it. At Winparts you will easily find the right particle filter with your number plate or car model. Fill this in on the website and the correct parts will be displayed.
